Mid-Winter garden

In the middle of winter it's a gift to be able to work in the gardens.  If you are reading this from Oregon, you know what kind of winter we have had this year.  Rainy wet days have been the forecast for most of the winter. So when we scheduled a work day for today, I was counting on needing my full rain suit.  But I didn't need it!  The weather was a pleasant, temps in the high 50's and no rain.

The work we did today was mostly weeding and pruning some of the roses.  And of course planning the garden for the coming season.  With the warm temps we have been having, it's hard not to want to rush the season.  We made plans to put in the early season veggies next month, and went over the garden plan for the year.

Spring is still 34 days away, but from the gardens it looks like it's just around the corner! I can't wait to see the flowers begin to bloom, from the spring blooms like crocus, grape hyacinth and forget-me-not to the roses that bloom for us in May every year.  And of course, it's wonderful to see the veggie gardens grow from the cover crop that we planted in the fall to seedlings in the spring to harvest in the fall.  And it all starts with a sunny day, and lots of Oregon rain.

Enjoy the photos, and if you are in the neighborhood stop in and say hi!
