A season of renewal: looking forward to 2015

We blinked, and now it's almost time to beckon in Summer.  Things are happening in the garden so fast this time of year.  It feels like we just pruned back the climbing roses, and planted those tiny radish seeds.

The work in the gardens began in February with the annual rose pruning, and in March the team started to plant the cool season veggies:  Orach, lettuce, onions, leeks. radishes, potatoes, carrots, peas and beans in April followed by cabbage, corn, cukes and squash in May.  Soon we will begin putting in a few tomato plants, and the garden will be all planted.  But wait??? Some of those cool season veggies will need to be harvested soon.... the work of a gardener is never ending!

You know me, I like to tell the story with photos.  Be sure to check back later on, I will be posting more as the season progresses and time permits.

from tiny seedlings to spicy veggies... don't you just love Radishes?

A new location for the Hollyhocks, the side of our shed.

Things are greening up, the blooms should be along soon!

Our self-sowing Herb and flower garden.

The early roses in the garden. Belle Isis is my fave ... today, anyway!

We have so many pretty forms and colors of columbine, and sell the seeds in the Interpretive Center.

Lambs ear, so fresh and green in early spring.

Mahonia, the Oregon State flower.

Look for this rose to be in bloom right now all over Oregon City.

This winter we cleared out the tangle of roses under the trees on the west end of the garden.  The coffee bags should help bring the grass line back a bit.
